The aim of this project was to create a number of products helping elders have a better daily life quality. Because it was a sub-project in National Science Council Future Concept Development Project, we were required to use some technology for our design. Every member who participated in the project had to create one design at the final presentation. The following page, I would like to introduce my design “Mediturn”.
2013 National Science Council
Future Concept Development Project
The Conceptual Design for an In-Depth Interaction with the Assistance of
Orange Technology forthe Elderly
We used S.T.E.E.P (Society, Technology, Economy, Environment and Politics) to help ourselves brainstorm and search a general situation of what would elderly head to, and then limited Top10 issues for the next discussion- product opportunity gap. We found out there were actually lots of people got involved in elders’ life that if we wanted to help them, we must not just focus our users on only “elders” but nursing workers, family members and so on. And there were plenty of problems waited for us to solve in their life. We searched and put out lots of issue, and I chose some issues which I was interested to limit my design further. Memories decline, daily medicine taking, clean and joint decline.
Defining the purpose
of the product
To understand the market, I searched some related products and categorized the characteristics of my design from others and to make sure that there’s no such similar products have already existed.

To clear the thought and idea in my mind, I drew and made the process that how this product works.
Sketch
For the elderly patients, it is safer and more convenient to provide an easy way to take medicine. This design creates sequenced and circular step to simplify the process - taking pills, drinking water, and turning the over cap clockwise.
Turning – pills – turning – water – turning.
Mediturn controls the schedule of taking medicine and reminding the patient by alarm sounds. The screen displays a simple interface with icons and lighting to locate the correct pills.

Because Mediturn got the best of the year prize, I had been invited to attend the Taipei International Invention Show & Technomart for 4 days. Therefore, I made this video to promote the using situation in the showcase.
